The GreenSCIES project is a ground-breaking initiative to transform the London Borough of Islington into a net-zero carbon district. We were born out of an alliance of 16 partners set to reduce carbon emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and create a pioneering sustainable energy system for this local community. The project combines a wide range of technologies, including heat pumps, solar PV, battery storage, and EV charging points, all supplied through groundwater, solar and waste heat repurposed from large data centres.
We believe the lessons learned here in Islington can be applied far beyond our community. That's why we're eager to share our experiences and inspire other local authorities and land owners to take a similar journey towards low-carbon living. Join us, and let's rewrite the future together.

The GreenSCIES project is a true collaboration between academia, the public sector, large companies, and small businesses. The goal was to deliver an innovative, smart local energy system for the entire community, providing low-carbon heating, cooling, power, and EV charging to an estimated 33,000 local residents and nearly 70 businesses in Islington.
